Volunteering

At ASM, we believe that every person has the power to create change. Whether it’s a few hours a week, a special skill, or simply a helping hand — volunteering transforms communities and lives.

Volunteering in May

Last month even more of our colleagues spent a day volunteering in the community.

Firstly, a team of colleagues supported Alder Hey Children’s Hospital during the Oli’s Safari Walk. The event was a 10k walk for all the family at Knowsley Safari Park and we supported by marshalling the event and handing out medals at the end of the walk. The event was the biggest yet and a great success, raising over £60,000.

On a beautiful day in May another team rolled up their sleeves to lend a helping hand at The Very Green Grocery. The grocery is a community project based in Northwich and promotes sustainability and reducing food waste. The team worked hard for the day tidying up their garden, weeding and planting.

We’re really proud of our colleagues who supported the charities, especially with such fantastic feedback from the charity organisers.

All of our colleagues are able to take a day volunteering to give back to our community, so keep an eye out to see what the teams get up to next.

Volunteering in our community

As part of an ongoing review of our colleague benefits, ASM launched a paid volunteering option recently and it has been fantastic to see our teams embrace this by getting involved in supporting local charities last week.

On Wednesday some of the team spent the day at the Cheshire Wildlife Trust Wildflower Nursery and were even lucky enough for it to be a nice sunny day. The charity aims to grow 50,000 trees (over 36 species) to help restore Cheshire’s meadows. Our team supported with lots of jobs including planting, weeding and even moving trees!

Later in the week more of our team were on hand to help our charity partner, Alder Hey Children’s Charity. The charity had taken delivery of 18,000 toy elephants so our team got their steps in moving the boxes up two flights of stairs ready to be sold and make money for this very worthy cause.

In line with our value ‘We Care’, all of our colleagues are able to take a day volunteering to give back to our community.

Volunteering with the Scouts

At ASM we’re committed to supporting our community and all our colleagues can take a day out of the business to volunteer for charities or community organisations.

Our Finance team have recently been busy supporting a local Scout group. The store room had become so full of equipment that it was no longer organised or safe to continue their Beaver Scout and Cub Scout sessions. Our team of volunteers took an inventory of the equipment, cleaned items where needed and organised the space.

Organising the space has allowed a clearer view for the leaders to plan fun sessions that provide skills for life.
