Leanne Ogden shortlisted at the CRN Women in Channel Awards

At ASM, we are extremely proud of our workforce and are committed to developing skills and experiences across the team. Investing in our people is a vital part of the culture at ASM and lends itself to our core values as our people are our greatest asset and make all the difference. Our team is made up of driven individuals who are constantly contributing and adding to the wider team. Our dedication and determination mean that we can best serve our clients and generate real long-term value and benefits.

We are exceptionally proud of Leanne Ogden, Head of Business Development for being shortlisted as a finalist for CRN’s Women in Channel awards Outstanding Returner category. For this category, the judges were looking for someone who has been inspirational in returning successfully to a career. In this blog, we allow our readers to get to know the woman behind the nomination and gain an understanding of Leanne’s personal and professional journey so far.

Tell us about your role at ASM?

As Head of Business Development, I am responsible for managing the growth and development of our reseller account base and the external team. We pride ourselves on building and maintaining strong relationships with our key clients, helping our customers to explore the latest emerging technologies within the market to save our customers money and disrupt the status quo. As a team we look at innovative ways to add value to our existing clients using our extensive partner network to offer new opportunities. A typical week (pre Covid) for myself and the team involved four days a week on client sites. I think I speak for all the team when I say that we each thrive off the variety the role brings and the need to be ready, think on your feet and to expect the unexpected.

What led you to this career?

My mum. She is truly the inspiration for pretty much everything that I have achieved. Without her I am not sure what I would have chosen as a career. It’s true to say that I never really had any burning desire to work in the channel, in the beginning I just needed a job, and to quote my mum at the time “a proper job”. When I was offered my first job in IT, initially I declined it as I was scared. Scared that I couldn’t do it, scared of the unknown, scared that as a 21-year-old girl, I wouldn’t succeed. It was at this point that my mum stepped in with her words of wisdom and gave me the encouragement I needed and assured me that I could do it and would be successful. Fast forward 16 years and I absolutely love working in the channel – no two days are ever the same and I thrive in a fast-paced environment and working with ever evolving technologies. I only hope that one day I can be just as good an inspiration to my daughter.

Tell us about an accomplishment that you are proud of?

I have worked on several of ASMs key accounts, but my biggest achievement to date must be taking one of those accounts from a relatively small spend with ASM to now being our largest customer, transacting across multiple countries. Whilst this took around 12 – 18 months to achieve I loved every minute of it. There were lots of early mornings, late nights and overnight stays but there is no better feeling than living and breathing the success as it happens over time.

What personality trait do you most credit your success to and why?

I am a very organised person and believe that my approach to life and work have helped me to build a successful career. Whilst trying to juggle a busy work and home life, organisation is critical. In my role, I often have multiple deadlines to meet whilst supervising the team and managing my own account base so being organised enables me to work through my never ending to do list.

Good luck to Leanne as a finalist for the Outstanding Returner award at the CRN Women in Channel awards – we have full faith in you and look forward to watching you continue to grow in what will be an exciting future at ASM.

A Year In Emerging Tech: Looking Back On 2024

At ASM, we are great believers in the power of innovation and we love to talk about Emerging Technologies. As we reflect on our fiscal year 2024-2025 and the latest technological advancements, we’re excited to share some of the groundbreaking technologies we’ve worked with firsthand over the past year.

2024: The Year of AI

It’s impossible to discuss emerging or disruptive technologies without highlighting AI & Machine Learning, which have dominated the tech landscape in 2024.
AI-assisted tools have experienced dramatic improvements in efficiency and productivity, with applications extending to everything from enterprise software to wellness devices and even toothbrushes. We’ve witnessed incredible demonstrations from GoTo, showcasing AI’s transformative power and their ambitious roadmap featuring Agentic AI and Self-Healing AI solutions.
Our long-term partnership with Forum Systems has yielded Quantum Gears, enabling enterprise organisations to harness the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini while safeguarding their sensitive data. Although AI represents a powerful tool for boosting efficiency and automating repetitive tasks, it carries significant risks, including potentially harmful outcomes, biased results, and misuse. Quantum Gears Secure GPT addresses these concerns, allowing businesses to safely reap the benefits of LLMs.

Cybersecurity & Threat Intelligence

As threat actors increasingly leverage AI to enhance their attacks, cybersecurity risks have become more complex and challenging. With a new cyberattack occurring every 39 seconds and countless data points and connections to protect, developing robust, adaptable defence solutions remains paramount.
Throughout 2024, we’ve collaborated with Recorded Future, who provide real-time threat intelligence to safeguard digital assets. Their Intelligence Cloud employs AI-driven analysis to identify and mitigate risks, helping customers stay ahead of emerging threats. Partner vendor Ripjar further leverages this technology to help organisations detect, analyse, and respond to sophisticated attacks.
With phishing and identity-based attacks (credential theft, MFA bypass, AI impersonation fraud) increasing in both frequency and complexity, we’ve witnessed remarkable innovations in password elimination technology. Beyond Identity offers cutting-edge authentication that enhances security while improving user experience—moving beyond traditional MFA and SSO with a secure access platform built for modern teams and modern risks.

Data & Cloud Innovation

The methods organisations use to store, access, and leverage information are rapidly evolving, making Data & Cloud innovations essential across all industries. Despite significant advancements, data experts suggest numerous untapped opportunities remain for organisations to leverage cloud-native solutions for better outcomes.
Our strategic vendor Immuta enables secure and compliant data access for enterprises, addressing critical concerns regarding data privacy and regulatory compliance. Meanwhile, Panzura is revolutionising hybrid cloud file services by managing unstructured data at scale, allowing organisations to maintain control while benefiting from cloud elasticity.

Software Development & IT Management

Digital transformation remains a top priority for businesses worldwide, keeping the software development sector perpetually dynamic. Industry leaders emphasise developer productivity and the significant impact of modern tools and AI on software quality and delivery speed.
Altova continues to simplify XML, data integration, and mobile app development, while Nagios sets the standard for IT infrastructure monitoring and observability. Azul’s advancement of Java performance for cloud enterprises demonstrates how established technologies are evolving to meet contemporary challenges.Java underpins many well-known products, including Netflix and Minecraft, and is utilised by enterprise organisations across gaming, finance, and government sectors. Application performance and cost management are crucial in the modern enterprise environment, and Azul has helped numerous strategic customers optimise spending, enhance performance, and strengthen security—truly disrupting in this space.
JetBrains continues to evolve and innovate, helping developers minimise friction across teams while integrating their AI Assistant to provide context-aware artificial intelligence directly within IDEs. This technology seamlessly integrates into development workflows, comprehending both code and context.

Business Communication & IT Support

Workplace collaboration technologies are dramatically reshaping how teams work together, leveraging integrated solutions to streamline operations across distributed teams. GoTo has led this transformation, providing comprehensive communication and IT support solutions optimised for hybrid work environments. Similarly, Kollective Technology enhances enterprise video distribution and observability with ECDN solutions, addressing the growing demand for high-quality video communication at scale across global organisations.

Device Management & Document Processing

Solutions continue to evolve in response to the growing prevalence of connected devices in enterprise settings. Our partner Corellium provides a powerful virtual hardware platform for developers and security researchers to build accurate virtual devices for iOS, Android, and IoT. This technology supports software development, testing, and security analysis without relying on physical hardware. Meanwhile, Nitro advances document workflows with PDF editing and e-signature capabilities, addressing the ongoing need for digital document management in modern businesses.

We’re Ready for 2025

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with numerous emerging technologies throughout 2024 (too many to list them all) while discovering trends and innovations we can expect to see in the future. The emerging tech landscape continues to expand rapidly—but the question remains: are you prepared?

ASM and Computacenter Talk About Careers in STEM At Abertay University

STEM careers offer exciting, life-changing opportunities. While historically seen as a closed-off field, we’re thrilled to see and support more initiatives making it accessible and inclusive for everyone.

That’s why we were excited to collaborate with Computacenter at Abertay University to inspire the next generation and raise awareness of STEM among children!

Our Sales Director, Iain Tomkinson, shared his thoughts:

“I feel incredibly fortunate about my journey into a channel/tech role. Like most of us, sales and the channel found me, it wasn’t intentional. School careers days certainly didn’t have a tech/STEM focus in my day.

That’s why when Reena Chawla asked if ASM  would support Computacenter with a STEM event at Abertay University to help build awareness of STEM among children, the decision was immediate.

My career in the channel has quite literally changed my life. The opportunity to highlight what a fantastic place the channel is to work and build a career and hopefully open up different avenues into channel/tech via placements, apprenticeships and university courses was incredible.”

With the help of our Senior Business Development Manager, Simon Keilty, we engaged the children by showcasing the technology behind drones—sparking curiosity and inspiring the future tech innovators of tomorrow.

A huge thank you to Reena Chawla and the Computacenter Public Sector/SVAR Team for the invitation, to Karen Adams from SmartSTEMs, and to our vendors Kollective and Endace for providing fantastic merchandise!

Are you looking for a career in STEM?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: ASM in Conversation With Prevent Breast Cancer

At ASM, we’re committed to fostering an environment that promotes our employees’ well-being in and outside the workplace. As a part of our Wellness Programme, this Breast Cancer Awareness Month we invited Vicky and Rachael from Prevent Breast Cancer to join us in a conversation about the importance of prevention, self care and early detection.

“Predict, Prevent, Protect”: a lifelong commitment

Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity focusing solely on predicting and preventing breast cancer by identifying and assessing risk factors, offering preventative interventions, funding cutting-edge research and educating patients and clinicians.

Why does prevention matter?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, even if it’s a rare disease in men. Newer data show that 156 people a day receive a breast cancer diagnosis, and incidence rates are projected to rise within the next 10 years. During our session, we’ve learned more staggering statistics:

  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer
  • 1 in 1,000 men will be diagnosed with the disease
  • 1 in 10 breast cancers are diagnosed late

These staggering statistics highlight how widespread the disease is and remind us that breast cancer can impact anyone—ourselves, our family, friends, or colleagues. Advocating for prevention can save lives.

A story of strength and resilience: Rachael’s testimony

Rachael’s powerful story brought a deeply personal and moving perspective to our session, shedding light on the reality of living with breast cancer and the importance of a strong support system.

Her talk was crucial to help us understand the importance of adopting preventative measures for ourselves or for our loved ones.

An important lesson

Thanks to Vicky and Rachael’s expertise, our team had an overwhelmingly positive response to the session. Here are some key takeaways from our session:

“Today’s session was incredibly moving. Hearing Rachael’s story brought home the reality of breast cancer and its impact on families.”

“As a man, I knew breast cancer could affect me, but I hadn’t considered taking action. Today, I felt the push to self-check and sparked conversations with the women in my family too.”

Protect yourself and your loved ones

Breast cancer is a very common disease that can affect everyone regardless of their gender. Adopting some small but mindful lifestyle changes while assessing any pre-existing risk factors with your GP can make a difference.

To learn more about prevention and how you can get involved, visit Prevent Breast Cancer’s website.

Volunteering in May

Last month even more of our colleagues spent a day volunteering in the community.

Firstly, a team of colleagues supported Alder Hey Children’s Hospital during the Oli’s Safari Walk. The event was a 10k walk for all the family at Knowsley Safari Park and we supported by marshalling the event and handing out medals at the end of the walk. The event was the biggest yet and a great success, raising over £60,000.

On a beautiful day in May another team rolled up their sleeves to lend a helping hand at The Very Green Grocery. The grocery is a community project based in Northwich and promotes sustainability and reducing food waste. The team worked hard for the day tidying up their garden, weeding and planting.

We’re really proud of our colleagues who supported the charities, especially with such fantastic feedback from the charity organisers.

All of our colleagues are able to take a day volunteering to give back to our community, so keep an eye out to see what the teams get up to next.
