Summary of Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, technically strong and ambitious Financial Controller.

Reporting to the CFO, you will take complete ownership for running the day-to-day Finance department and provide effective leadership to the team (12).

Responsibilities will include optimising department performance to support the business, overseeing the Group’s internal and external reporting, managing financial governance and controls, and providing commercial support to the CFO.

As a member of the company’s senior management team, you will also contribute to the overall development and delivery of business strategy.

There is significant scope to develop this role and it would suit an ambitious candidate looking to progress their career.

The role will be based in Northwich in Cheshire.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Provide dynamic and effective leadership of the established Finance team (12)
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to ensure a high performing team that works collaboratively and effectively with the wider business: optimise day-to-day performance of the Finance department
  • Hands-on support for transactional areas of Finance including Sales ledger and Purchase ledger (the business processes a high-volume of invoices on a daily basis – oversee and ensure accurate and timely results)
  • Complete ownership of the period end process including payroll. Produce month-end consolidated accounts and reports
  • Responsible for the integrity and reporting of the balance sheet, including completion of monthly control processes and reconciliations
  • Daily cash management
  • Responsible for all aspects of the financial control environment, ensuring that rigorous processes and procedures are always operating effectively. Proactively seek to improve the processes to support business growth and increase financial awareness
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial and accounting regulations (local and international regulations)
  • Deal with all tax matters and submissions (including VAT and duty on imports \ exports)
  • Oversee the year end audit process
  • Manage relationship with external European accountants (French and German businesses)
  • Analyse financial performance and spend; contribute to maximising profitability
  • Provide accurate and timely management information to the CFO and other Directors
  • Value-added commercial reporting
  • Work with the cross department senior management team – contribute to the development and delivery of business strategy
  • Build relationships across the wider company
Person specification
  • Technically strong and analytical
  • Hands-on and not afraid to roll up sleeves; lead from the front
  • A solid track record of inspiring and managing effective teams. Must have the ability to motivate, coach and engage teams to achieve excellent performance
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment; proactive, agile, responsive to opportunities and deliver to deadlines
  • Attitude and application are key.  Demonstrate a high level of energy, passion, and drive; taking full ownership for deliverables, problem solving and contributing ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels and ability to challenge effectively yet listen to and adopt new ideas
  • A team-player who can foster a culture of collaborative and cross-functional working
  • Forward-thinking and commercially minded – demonstrate early identification of opportunities and challenges, propose solutions/actions, demonstrate value-adding activity
  • Must demonstrate sound judgement
  • High ethical and professional standards
Essential experience \ skills:
  • Qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA
  • 5+ years post qualification experience
  • Strong academic track record
  • Strong systems skills, proficient in MS Office
Desirable experience \ skills:
  • IT industry
  • Microsoft Dynamics and \ or Business Central
  • European accounting knowledge
  • Practice background, ideally Big 4
